Working towards

a zero waste society

re-purposing end of life waste

EOL Modular is a research and development venture dedicated to re-purposing end of life waste solar panels, waste tyre crumb and shredded textile waste into socially and economically viable building products for both Australia and overseas. The Patented EOL Module is the first product that will proceed to testing and certification in 2024.

Solar panel waste

Australia faces a looming crisis in what to do with the expected 17000 tonnes of waste rooftop solar panels per year by 2025. That figure will explode in the following decades. Going to landfill is not an option and recycling methods are still in their infancy in Australia. Re-purposing these rooftop solar panels into a viable product with the use of little precious energy is an attractive option given the intense use of energy in the recycling option.

rubber tyre waste

The rubber tyre crumb industry is looking for any responsible use of tyre crumb as the volumes available are immense. Re-purposing tyre crumb is imperative now that exporting the product from our shores is prohibited. It makes sense to utilize the inherent sound barrier properties of waste tyre crumb in an environmentally sustainable manner.

textile waste

Waste textiles are at the top of the list of consumer concerns on waste. Everyone hates their waste clothes etc going to landfill. As with crumbed rubber this waste product has inherent sound barrier properties that can be effectively harnessed in boosting the performance of the EOL Module.

EOL MODULE

Ideal for garages, sheds, noise barrier fences, sound barrier walls, warehouse partitioning, emergency kit shelters, boundary fences and much more.

EOL Modular Use

EOL Modular is a research and development venture launched to repurpose end of life waste materials and establish markets for the EOL Module both within Australia and abroad. The EOL Module is the result of research and development carried out during 2023 on how to take advantage of the inherent sound barrier properties present in three of the most problematic waste products on the planet, namely end of life solar panels, waste tyre crumb and waste textiles.

1 kilometre long noise barrier wall on a major highway 4 metres high will utilise:

  • 6250 end of life waste solar panels
  • 8750 waste standard car tyres
  • 250 tonnes of waste textiles

one modular, stackable barrier

The EOL Module combines all three into one modular, stackable sound barrier wall or panel suitable in a wide array of applications including fencing, residential and commercial walls and partitions, internal warehouse partitioning,  sound barrier fencing, sheds and garage insulated walls, emergency housing kits plus as a very effective noise barrier wall along busy roads and highways where a double EOL Module is used to gain a span of between 3.2 and 4 metres.

Several factors became apparent from research.

Firstly that there are products designed for a primary purpose that once they reach their end of life for that primary purpose can start a new life as another useful product both economically and socially without the expenditure of huge amounts of precious energy in the process.

Secondly with the world entering a stage where raw materials are becoming more scarce it should be a priority to re-purpose products where possible rather than using copious amounts of energy recycling. Lastly it was clear that our EOL Module is superior in many ways to alternative sound barrier panels presently on the market. The EOL Module will not only be more aesthetically appealing and cost effective but will be the only barrier built from 98% end of life products able to achieve a weighted sound reduction index second only to solid concrete.

Noise barrier walls and fences

Noise barrier walls and fences are in high demand both for residential and commercial applications as consumers and businesses become more cognizant of the fact that noise pollution is a serious detriment to health both physical and mental. In some American states there is a wait list of over two years for some communities to get noise barrier walls along highways to shield them from vehicular noise. Indeed in Queensland there is threatened legal action pending over the lack of noise barrier walls along certain sections of the M1.

Research indicates that the EOL Module will surpass all technical specifications for roadside noise barrier walls and achieve a sound reduction result higher than any barrier on the market except for solid concrete. Testing and certification during 2024 will confirm the results.

The bulk of noise barrier walls for highways around the globe are still manufactured from virgin materials including concrete where cement accounts for approx.. 8%  of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions. At EOL Modular we believe that in the future all noise barrier walls used on public roads and highways should utilise end of life materials rather than new barriers requiring the expenditure of large amounts of precious energy.

The demand for residential sound barrier fencing along front boundaries to properties grows every year and the EOL Module will feature amongst the best available on the market today both in effectiveness and amenity to surroundings, but come at a much reduced cost.

emergency shelter kits

Our research and testing in 2024 will also see the EOL Module purpose made for emergency shelter kits for war torn countries and refugee camps. These kits will have a stand up time of less than 24 hours and provide incredibly insulated shelter for those in need. All made possible by utilising all three end of life products and with very little energy use in assembly onsite. Importantly the kits will be able to be assembled with unskilled labour.

garages & sheds

The EOL Module will transform a hot garage or shed into a workspace that is a pleasure to work in as well as being more pleasing to the eye than metal cladding. A framing system has been devised to quickly and easily assemble the EOL Modular walls for the sheds ready for roof trusses. All EOL Modules produced for sheds and garages will be load bearing to carry roof weight.

The EOL Modules for sheds, garages and fences can also be finished in a spray- on coating of fibre cement to give you a textured finish in a variety of colours. Internal sound barrier walls for warehouses etc can be finished with a variety of paints or the fibre cement.

Other applications for the EOL Module include warehouse partitioning where noise barrier walls are required, front fencing on residential properties to shield road noise, sound barrier fences around service stations, industrial installations, aged care homes etc.

The EOL Modular Website

The EOL Modular website has been launched to commence our journey in joining the Circular Economy by re-purposing these three problematic waste products. Our ‘JOIN US’ page seeks to attract like-minded environmentally conscious entrepreneurs to help establish a network of Licencees to work with us Australia-wide in setting up an extensive Licencing arrangement whereby Licencees are able to utilise EOL Modular’s patented method of re-purposing and create viable businesses  turning these three waste products into an attractive  product starting a new life as an insulated and sound barrier wall and fence panel. This Licencing system will overcome the problem of transporting large quantities of waste solar panels across the Country to recycling depots.

The ’JOIN US’ page also seeks contact from all other interested parties including solar panel companies , recyclers with an oversupply, crumbed tyre waste suppliers, shredded textile waste suppliers, builders, shed manufacturing companies, Government and Local Authorities, fencing companies and also interest on Licencing from overseas parties.

The Exclusive Licencing system will be finalised by mid to late this  year wherein all enquirers will be notified of the details and costings for each exclusive licence. While this is happening we hope to have all testing and certification complete as well as compliance work done for use of the EOL Module as a roadside noise barrier and in the civil and construction industries.
